The tale of "La Chificha"

Image
When I was a child, I spent much time with my grandmother. I still remember how she used to place her rocking chair to watch the sunset, and I, holding with my hands a glass of hot coffee, sat down to watch and listen to her while she told me many stories, some of her youth, others of the history of our town and many horror tales. Her voice and gaze, which at that time were not as muted as now, made me always feel like the protagonist of these stories. It is said that there are stories that should not be told, but this one should not be forgotten; it must transcend in time and in the minds of new generations since "a town is kept alive thanks to its children who tell its story." Children International, my first scholarship.

I am studying pedagogy to become an English teacher. I am in the eighth semester, but when I was in the third one, I had to start my internship program for the first time. Before that, I had yet to experience teaching children or youths. The university selected the agenda to allow students to do their internships. My whole class had to follow a program related to an institution called Children International. This institution has different locations throughout Quito city. It houses low-income children and adolescents from all over the city. My classmates and I had to go to the closest site and be their teachers for almost three months (Saturdays only) to complete 160 hours. As I live in the city center, I had to go to the “2 puentes” location.  Once there, I had to team up with Jazmin, who, at the time, she was not my friend but a classmate only. As usual, we were nervous because it was our first day and also a bit worried because the location we had to go to was dangerous. The prin...

Cayambe: The great little paradise.

Source:  Cayambe Ecuador (goraymi.com) Cayambe is the city of the sun in the center of the world, a thousand-year-old land of great characters who have marked transcendence in history. This city gets its name because it is close to an ice giant called the Cayambe volcano. But do not be alarmed; it is a dead volcano that has not erupted for thousands of years. Due to its great different nationalities and ethnic diversity, its name has various meanings such as "ice," "high and cold place," or "source of life"; it depends on the different languages spoken in this place. The green color will predominate in most of this city since you will always be surrounded by immense mountains, plains, and mountain ranges. Being here, you will feel like a fairy tale full of fantastic animals and exotic plants. It is an experience that everyone should have. Its streets are full of stories. The ancient buildings and heritage houses found in the city's heart are proof ...

Christmas Parade

Once upon a time, there were three siblings. Adriana , the older sister; Iván, the middle brother; and  Rony , the youngest. One day near the Christmas festivities, Adriana and Iván had to parade through the streets of their city dressed like the nativity scene. However, since her mother had to work that day, she could not go with them, but she did not want to leave Rony alone at home. Therefore, Adriana and Ivan had to take him with them. The day of the parade had arrived. Adriana had to dress like the virgin María and Iván like the shepherd José. They had almost everything ready to leave the house, but it took Rony a long time to wake up and be prepared, so they missed the bus to their school. They had to take a taxi to be on time. And they did so; they arrived in time for the parade. This parade started in the city center and ended at the school where they studied. Everything was ready. Many children wore all kinds of costumes; some looked like angels, others like animals, an...
